MY MADALEINE COOKIE

In front of City Lights
my 122 blue Volvo sits,
the car I loved in ‘68
as a family man.

The sight unleashed
a torrent of memories;
a summer in Bar Harbor
with three young kids.

With my vintage Evinrude,
we snagged a watermelon-size
ancient snapping turtle
for show and tell at school.

Loaded in a lobster trap
perched on the Volvo roof,
we fed it toads and tuna
until it went to the Turtleback Zoo.

When happiness was mine
did I know it then, as I do now?
